"Our mission is to create a healthier community to support and strengthen youth and families."

This website is dedicated to Michaela Olson, a young life taken too soon. At thirteen, Michaela decided to play soccer. She ran around the neighborhood path three times, three times a day to get herself in shape. That's when her breathing problems began. In September of 2010, Michaela's doctor diagnosed her with asthma. After upping her dosages and trying different inhalers for the next year and a half, we learned she never had asthma. Two months later, her doctor referred her to a specialist who diagnosed her with vocal chord dysfunction.

On Sunday July 1, 2012, Michaela went for a jog and collapsed on the walking path. She never regained consciousness. Michaela was sixteen. The autopsy proved Michaela had come in contact with a common fungus called Histoplasmosis. It's easily treated, but often misdiagnosed as asthma or vocal chord dysfunction.

Michaela's parents are committed to raising awareness about this common, but sometimes deadly, fungus. If you, or someone you know, has been diagnosed with asthma or vocal chord dysfunction and you haven't been officially tested, we urge you to get tested. If we, or her doctors, had known, Michaela would still be with us today.
